“Drumming is a powerful force, and it is one of the oldest forms of communication in the world,” said Muldoon, a steel drum musician known as “Steel Margarita.”
She said that besides rhythm and making music, a drum circle can bring peace, joy, relaxation and healing.
“You don’t need any musical skill or ability to participate in this kind of drumming for health,” said Muldoon, a Long Island resident who has a summer home in Beach Haven. “Creating a beat and drumming to it with many types of drums and other small percussive instruments produces positive human responses both physically and emotionally. The different sounds of deep drums and high frequencies of the shakers correspond to various chakras (energy points) in the body and so will balance and normalize the chakras.”
Muldoon added that drum circles are validated by medical studies that confirm the increased feelings of well-being and relaxation have a positive impact on blood pressure and the immune system.
